KRAWCZUK INDUSTRIES                                                    WHAT A WEEK!                                           Mon Apr 9, 2018  #15_

PICTURES OF THE WEEK

I have reasons to want to get better at making stuffed animals. Any tips you haver would be appreciated! So, here is a dog that I am working on. It’s made out of blue microfleece. And since it won’t be for a kid at this point, it has furry ears.

What Aisle Are “Jokes” On?

Or, how I am going to fill in a newsletter when I don’t have news...

I was talking to L.K. last night (who is looking for travel tips for Seattle, so send them my way if you have them?), and she asked what I was going to write about this week. Well, with the last one coming out so late, um, well, I’m sorta caught up on news. So, sorta stuck.

I thought about skipping. Or making it one page. And then, I thought about when at a shop, someone will ask “anything else?” right before they ring you up. Sometimes, if the person/situation seems right, I’ll reply “well, do you have any jokes?” I’ve gotten a lot of smiles from the question, and really great jokes, but maybe jokes I shouldn’t repeat. (Curious? Ask me about the joke from the older Iranian man…)

Anyhow, here are a bunch of “friendly jokes” to have in stock:

Who keeps the ocean clean?

The mermaid!

What do peanut butter and jelly do around a campfire?

Tell toast stories!

Two wind turbines are standing in a field and one asks the other,

"What kind of music do you like?"

The other says, "I'm a big metal fan".

What do you call a pig with three eyes?

A piiig.

To understand recursion, reread this sentence.

My friend said to me, “Do you want to hear a really good Batman impression!?”

I said, “Go on, then.”

He shouted, “NOT THE KRYPTONITE!”

 I said, “That’s Superman.”

He said, “Thanks man, I’ve been practicing a lot.”

It's hard to explain puns to kleptomaniacs because they always take things literally.

Jean-Paul Sartre is sitting at a French cafe, revising his draft of Being and Nothingness. He says to the waitress, "I'd like a cup of coffee, please, with no cream." The waitress replies, "I'm sorry, Monsieur, but we're out of cream. How about with no milk?"

I stopped by Aaron Zonka’s open studio. I love his work. You know, he will do a sketch / drawing for you for $20.

Richie had an event, and I got to play a card game with no rules. It was so much fun, and I learned so much.

 MATCH

Meet Up for Puppet Builders

Tue April 10 @ 7PM

Do you want to build a puppet with both a power move and an epic death action?!?

Do you want to compete or “compete” for unspecified glory and prizes?!?

Do you want to wear some amazing merch, and when that very attractive self aware entity you’ve been chatting up asks you what it’s all about, you can nonchalantly say, “oh, it’s from this cool thing I worked on”?

Well, then do I have a meet up for you.

Email noonaco@gmail.com for details.

And if you just want to see the battles, look for an announcement for a mid-summer event!

QUESTION: Do you have an idea that you’d like brainstormed by some creative strangers?

I’m working on a project where a small team collaboratively brainstorms around people’s business problems, or life’s problems in general. Do you have a problem you’d like brainstormed around? Let me know, and I can give you more details.

California Housing Problems Are Spilling Across Its Borders

E.W.L. sent me this article:  https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/20/business/economy/reno-growth.html

It seems the housing crunch that is in SF is now changing the markets in other nearby cities. This article talks about the effect in Reno. One of the things I keep an eye out for is a city that has enough reasonably affordable housing (and jobs and access to water/nature) that I can convince all my friends to move there. Reno had been on that list. I still want to go back and visit Cleveland…

Muck Rack  - a story behind the stories…

When I worked for CNN, I was surprised to find out how much of the news was really based on AP and Reuters news feeds. Like, mostly just lifted wholesale.

I was reading an article, and someone mentioned Muck Rack, and in a way, it seems to be the same thing, but the age of the internet. “Find and contact journalists, bloggers and freelancers who cover your niche or industry, monitor the news as it breaks, and generate quantifiable reports on your PR efforts.” Have you ever used it? I’m curious what it’s like!

V. Vale’s (of researchpubs.com) “Goals of Life”

I was at the most recent Dorkbot, and D.P. suggested that I go and ask V. Vale for his piece of paper. I was baffled and confused. D.P. reassured me that it was something I wanted to do, and being a trusted source, I followed his guidance. I walked over to RE/SEARCH’s table and said hi to V. Vale. I mentioned his “piece of paper” and his eyes lit up! He said for years he has wanted to be able to give something away for free, and a piece of paper with his “Goals of Life” on it was something he was starting handing out. I now keep a copy in my notebook. I don’t really agree with all of his goals, but it’s interesting to see someone else’s world view on one page. It’s like a pocket V. Vale. You can find an older copy of his sheet here, but I think you really just should ask V. Vale for one in person...
